A day at the beach can give positive vibes to a person. No doubt, a vast majority of recreational vacations are water-related. Either many a families decide to spend vacation at the water’s edge; be it lake, river or ocean or they decide to spend time out on many of the lakes and enjoy their prime time of their life. With clear sky overhead, bluest waters all around, be it for romantic holiday or for deep sea adventure seated in sail cruiser or bow rider one can enjoy coolest moments of life.
The very next question that comes to mind is which type of boat is most suitable? It totally depends on the purpose. Is the objective to glide smoothly with the family across the river or is it for thrill.
There are large categories of new as well as used boats for sale. Day cruiser, Overnighter, Closed Bow, Bowrider, Deck Boat are a few categories to short list from. Again, there comes a stage when family needs to be more comfortable afloat, teenager need their privacy, small children need to be kept warm and dry. In such a case venturing into sailing cruiser and leaving behind small boat may be a wise decision.
Besides investment in the vessel, investment in lifejackets for the entire family, including the baby; safety harnesses, particularly for a family with children, offshore clothing in breathable fabric, non-slip sailing shoes is a must.
Buying a used sailboat is quite different from buying a used car. Extra knowledge and caution is a prerequisite. Overlooking basic safety features can lead to the sailboat sinking in deep water and it is much more dangerous than financial loss.
A few important steps can help:
1. Familiarizing with what is available in the market.
2. List of questionnaires to be asked to potential seller.
3. Calculate the total cost before it reaches door. (Transportation, maintenance etc.)
4. Survey the sailboat before final purchase (professional boat surveyor for complete inspection is advisable)
5. Insure by getting boat insurance from a reputable insurance company covering hull and mechanical repairs as well as fire, theft and sinking of the vessel.
Of the various companies in the market Cobalt is a name to reckon with. It has a variety of ranges in its fleet of bowriders, day cruiser and yatches. At Cobalt, research and development finally ends in delivery of a vessel which is ‘Practical’. As per company’s lexicon, this word has its own meaning: - it has be comfortable, dependable, convenient, elegant, distinct and its own functional style. It is truly said that Cobalt has shown the entire industry what is perfection.
After becoming the proud owner of your vessel, it is necessary to maintain the boat for long life. Wash the outer side with mild detergent. Strong cleaners are a strict NO. Wax your boat often especially in the spring and before storing it in winter. And finally, the best place for a boat in winter is outside water in a climate controlled storage area or shrink-wrapped in a proper way.
